Sigmoidal normal faults and evidence for vertical-axis block rotation in an oblique convergent margin: A 3D seismic example from offshore Colombia

چکیده
Sigmoidal fold and fault geometries are typical kinematic indicators of strike-slip zones. We document kilometer-scale, normal faults with sigmoidal plan-view within the dextral pull-apart Bahia Basin, at rear obliquely convergent South Caribbean Deformed Belt, offshore Colombia. Using 3D seismic reflection data calibrated to wells, closely spaced, low-displacement, planar mapped Miocene strata. A series horizontal (time) slices computed attributes used interpret configuration these faults. The spaced display an east–west trend a progressive rotation into northwest–southeast trend. In map view, traces curve toward their tips, describing sigmoidal-Z geometry that terminates discrete northeast–southwest-trending structures observed may correspond either tension fractures, which form theoretically 45°, or antithetic shear fractures displacement formed 50°–70° boundaries zone. These scenarios lead clockwise block between 20° 40° This study shows first example vertical-axis rotations in western end margin is important use identify where paleomagnetic studies not available.

Application of 3D-Seismic Data in Detecting Buried Karsts in Asmari Formation: An Example from Kupal Oil Field, Southwest Iran
Detecting karstification processes in hydrocarbon carbonate reservoirs is important because of their porosity, permeability and also the risk associated with their drilling. A very useful technique to locate buried karsts is 3D seismic. In this research, seismic frequency decomposition (spectral decomposition) and seismic inversion techniques used to identify these sub-surface diagenetic featur...
متن کامل3D seismic image processing for faults
Numerous methods have been proposed to automatically extract fault surfaces from 3D seismic images, and those surfaces are often represented by meshes of triangles or quadrilaterals. However, extraction of intersecting faults is still a difficult problem that is not well addressed. Moreover, mesh data structures are more complex than the arrays used to represent seismic images, and they are mor...
متن کاملFlexural Rotation of Normal Faults
A conceptual model is proposed for the generation of low-angle normal faults in Metamorphic Core Complexes. The model is based on three assumptions: (1) the isostatic response to normal fault motion is of regional extent; (2) when a fault segment is significantly rotated from the optimum angle of slip, relative to the crustal stress field, it is replaced by a new planar fault oriented in the op...

in the area of automotive engineering there is a tendency to more electrification of power train. in this work control of an induction machine for the application of electric vehicle is investigated. through the changing operating point of the machine, adapting the rotor magnetization current seems to be useful to increase the machines efficiency. in the literature there are many approaches wh...
15 صفحه اولMoving faults while unfaulting 3D seismic images
Unfaulting seismic images to correlate seismic reflectors across faults is helpful in seismic interpretation, and is useful for seismic horizon extraction. Methods for unfaulting typically assume that fault geometries need not change during unfaulting. However, for seismic images containing multiple faults and, especially, intersecting faults, this assumption often results in unnecessary distor...
